Farming at Lady Leys Farm, Lullington, South of Burton upon Trent, all 700 acres are down to producing home-grown forage for the 550 commercial milkers and 400 followers – with crops of grass, forage maize, and wheat grown for both wholecrop and caustic-treated grain, all fed in a total mixed ration.

Using a proven silage additive forms an integral part of the silage-making process.

We went for Ecocool because it’s aimed at higher dry matter silage.
We like Ecosyl additives. The MTD/1 lactic acid bacteria has got a great deal of independent trial data behind it, and is proven to help animal performance.
Ultimately, it’s about attention to detail. We’re just trying to do everything well – getting more milk from forage and reducing concentrate use, and getting better cow health from feeding forage.
